Who Was The First Governor Of Kaduna State?

Air Vice-Marshal Muktar Muhammed

The first Governor of Kaduna State was Air Vice-Marshal Muktar Muhammed, who served as governor from 1977 until July 1978.

Muktar Muhammed was born on November 11, 1944, in Kano, Nigeria. He had a successful career in the Nigerian Air Force and reached the rank of Air Vice-Marshal.

Muktar Muhammed became governor during a period of military rule in Nigeria, under the leadership of General Olusegun Obasanjo.

He took over from the previous governor, Usman Jibrin. At that time, Kaduna State had recently been renamed from North Central State, which was created on May 27, 1967.

As a new state, Kaduna was still finding its way, and Muktar Muhammed played an important part in helping the state grow and develop.

During his time as governor, Muktar Muhammed focused on improving the state’s infrastructure and setting up a strong governance framework.

He worked to address the challenges that came with governing a state that was still adjusting to the changes happening in Nigeria.

Muktar Muhammed was known for his dedication to public service and his efforts to bring together the different ethnic groups in Kaduna State. His time as governor was brief, and he was succeeded by Ibrahim Mahmud Alfa in July 1978.

After leaving office, Muktar Muhammed continued to serve in the military and other public roles until he retired. He passed away on October 1, 2017, at the age of 72.

Who Is The Current Governor Of Kaduna State?

Uba Sani

Uba Sani is the current Governor of Kaduna State in Nigeria. He took office on May 29, 2023, and Uba Sani is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Before Uba Sani became governor, the position was held by Nasir El-Rufai, who served from 2015 to 2023.

With Uba Sani’s election, the APC continued to lead the state, and he has been focused on making improvements in areas like infrastructure, security, and public services. Uba Sani was born on December 31, 1970, in Zaria, a city in Kaduna State.

He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering and later pursued a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Calabar.

He also got a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Abuja. However, his political career started after Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999.

At that time, he supported President Olusegun Obasanjo and was appointed as a Special Advisor on Public Affairs. Later, he worked closely with Nasir El-Rufai, serving as the Special Adviser on Political and Intergovernmental Affairs. In 2019, Uba Sani was elected to the Nigerian Senate, where he represented the Kaduna Central Senatorial District.

While in the Senate, he was known for his work in various legislative areas, especially as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions.

One of his notable achievements during this time was helping with the construction of a significant faculty building at Kaduna State University.

Uba Sani has been working on key issues like security, education, and healthcare. He believes in involving the community in governance and is committed to addressing challenges like intercommunal violence and economic problems.

His administration is building on the work done by his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, while also introducing new initiatives to meet the needs of the people in Kaduna State.

Who Is The Current Deputy Governor Of Kaduna State?

Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe

The current Deputy Governor of Kaduna State is Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe. She is the first female Deputy Governor of Kaduna State and the far north of Nigeria, having taken office on May 29, 2019, after being elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2019 Nigerian gubernatorial elections.

In 2023, she was re-elected as Deputy Governor. Balarabe’s journey to this position started with her early education at Demonstration Primary School in Kagoro and Government Girls Secondary School in Soba.

She later went on to study Medicine at the University of Maiduguri and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 1988.

In 2004, she earned a Fellowship from the Medical College in Public Health from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. Balarabe had a long career in public health.

She worked as a Medical Officer at Wuse General Hospital in Abuja and served as the Director of Public Health in the Federal Capital Territory.

In 2016, Governor Nasir El-Rufai appointed her as the Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Development Agency. Now as Deputy Governor, Balarabe has contributed greatly to the progress of Kaduna State.

On October 15, 2019, she presented the Kaduna State Government’s 2020 Budget of Renewal to the Kaduna State House of Assembly, making her the first woman to do so in Northern Nigeria.

In 2022, she considered running for Governor in the 2023 general election but decided to support Senator Uba Sani instead.
