Who Was The First Governor Of Sokoto State?

Colonel Umaru Mohammed was the first governor of Sokoto State in Nigeria. He began his term in March 1976, after Sokoto State was created.

Colonel Mohammed’s job as governor was to set up the new state’s government and start building its infrastructure. During his time, Sokoto State was still under military rule, which meant that the governor had to follow orders from the military leaders at the national level.

He stayed in office until July 1978. After him, Lt. Colonel Gado Nasko took over as governor. Nasko continued with the military style of leadership and worked on different development projects.

This was a time when military leaders had a lot of control over Nigeria’s politics. Since then, the state has gone through different phases of leadership, including both military and civilian governors.
