What Is The Largest Local Government Area In Benue State?

Gboko is the largest Local Government Area (LGA) in Benue State, Nigeria. According to the most recent population projection, its population was estimated to be around 521,700 people.

Gboko was established on May 11, 1970, and covers a large area of about 2,264 square kilometers. This makes it not only large in size but also one of the most populated areas in Benue State. Gboko serves as the main administrative center of the LGA.

It is also cultural because it is the ancestral home of the Tiv people, the largest ethnic group in the area. The town is home to the palace of the Tor Tiv, the traditional ruler of the Tiv people. Economically, Gboko is driven by agriculture.

The land is very fertile, and many people in the area are farmers. They grow different crops like yams, maize, rice, and cassava. This farming activity makes Gboko a key player in food production in Benue State.

Aside from agriculture, Gboko is rich in mineral resources like limestone and granite. These resources also help to support the local economy. However, Gboko does face some challenges.

One of the biggest problems is the conflict between farmers and herders over land. These conflicts can sometimes affect the area’s farming activities and the relationships between the people who live there.
