The Ministry of Sports Development in Nigeria is in charge of promoting and developing sports in the country. This ministry was created to focus specifically on sports, separate from youth affairs. In August 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu established the Ministry of Sports Development.

Who Is The Current Ministers Of Sport Development In Nigeria?
As of 2024, the current Minister of Sports Development in Nigeria is John Owan Enoh. He took on this role on August 21, 2023, appointed by President Bola Tinubu.
John Owan Enoh was born on June 4, 1966, in Agbokim, a community in Cross River State. He pursued his education at the University of Calabar, graduating in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
Notably, he was the best-graduating student of his set. Enoh continued his academic journey by earning an M.Sc in Demography, a PGDM, and an MBA.
His dedication to education also led him to take several courses both within Nigeria and internationally to build his capacity for legislative work. Before joining politics, Enoh served as a lecturer at the University of Calabar from 1991 to 1997.
Enoh’s political career began in 2003 when he was elected to the House of Representatives as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He served three terms in the House, from 2003 to 2015.
In his first term, he was the deputy chairman of the House Committee on Culture and Tourism and later the House Committee on Appropriation.
In his second term, he chaired the House Committee on Finance, and in his third term, he once again led the House Committee on Appropriation.
In 2015, Enoh was elected to the Senate to represent the Cross River Central Senatorial District. He served until 2019 and was the chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance.
In May 2017, Enoh switched his political allegiance from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He contested for the governorship of Cross River State under the APC banner but lost to Ben Ayade.
Apart from his political career, Enoh is also a successful farmer and philanthropist. He started his farming venture in 2000 and has since cultivated about 2000 hectares of land.
His farms, spread across different parts of Cross River State, include palm plantations and livestock production. Enoh operates an out-grower scheme in the communities where his farms are located, helping to support local farmers.
Enoh is also known for his philanthropic efforts. He runs the JOE (John Owan Enoh) Foundation, which provides aid for people living with diabetes in Nigeria.
Through his foundation, Enoh has positively impacted many lives. Enoh is married to Rachel Owan-Enoh, and they have three children: Rachel, John Jr., and Victor.
