The Federal Ministry of State Housing and Urban Development in Nigeria was established in 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This ministry was created to address the country’s housing and urban development challenges.Before this, these matters were handled by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.

Former Minister Of State Housing And Urban Development In Nigeria
Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo is the former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development in Nigeria. He took on this role on August 21, 2023, as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s team.
The administration is working to solve the country’s housing and urban development problems. Gwarzo was born in Gwarzo, a town in Kano State, Nigeria.
He went to primary and secondary school in Kano before going to university, where he studied Building Technology at the Federal University of Technology in Minna.
This education gave him the skills and knowledge needed for his work in housing and urban development. However, Gwarzo started his political career, by working on community development projects that focused on housing and infrastructure.
He wanted to improve living conditions in Nigeria, which led him to get involved in local governance, where he pushed for better housing policies.
In 2023, Gwarzo became the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development. He works alongside the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
Gwarzo believes in creating a good environment for private companies to help with housing development. Since taking office, Gwarzo has been busy with many projects to make housing more accessible.
He wants to increase the funds for the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria so more Nigerians can get affordable mortgage loans.
Also, he is creating a Strategic Housing and Urban Development Blueprint, which will set out the main goals and plans for improving housing in Nigeria.
Gwarzo is also looking for new ways to finance housing to reduce the housing shortage in Nigeria. He is talking to international organizations to improve land registration and titling processes, which are important for using land as a valuable asset.

Who Is The Current Minister Of State Housing And Urban Development In Nigeria?
Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, a Nigerian politician, economist, and former teacher from Kano State is the new minister of state for housing and urban development In Nigeria, having succeeded Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo.
Born on June 22, 1962, in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano, Ata has dedicated much of his life to public service and politics.
He attended Fagge Primary School from 1968 to 1975 and later went to Aminu Kano Community Commercial College, where he completed his secondary education in 1980.
To further his education, he attended Bayero University in Kano, and he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1984 and later completed a Master’s degree in Development Studies in 2001.
Ata started his career as a teacher, which helped him gain experience in public service and education. In 1992, he joined the Kano State Ministry of Education as a Business Education Inspector.
His dedication led him to the Kano State Housing Corporation in 1997, where he worked as a Principal Planning Officer. However, he resigned from civil service in 1998 to join politics.
In 1999, Ata was elected as a member of the Kano State House of Assembly, representing the Fagge constituency. He ran under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Although he lost his seat in the 2003 elections, he continued to pursue a career in politics and won back his seat in 2011. In 2015, he was re-elected and appointed Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly.
Ata’s political career reached a high point in 2017 when he became the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, following the resignation of Kabiru Alhassan Rurum.
However, his tenure as Speaker was challenging, as some members of the House tried to impeach him, claiming he was not effectively managing the House.
This led to his removal as Speaker on July 30, 2018, when 27 out of 40 members voted for his impeachment, and Kabiru Alhassan Rurum was reinstated as Speaker.
Despite these challenges, Ata remained active in politics. In the 2019 general election, he contested for a seat in the House but was defeated by Tukur Muhammad of the PDP.
Ata is a member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), having been previously affiliated with the All People’s Party (APP) from 1999 to 2010.
