Who Is The New Minister Of Livestock Development In Nigeria?

Alhaji Idi Mukhtar

Alhaji Idi Mukhtar is the newly appointed Minister of Livestock Development in Nigeria. His appointment is a great step for the recently established Ministry of Livestock Development (FMLD), which was created by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Before his appointment, the ministry was managed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, who oversaw its operations while waiting for a minister to be chosen. Born in Maiha Local Government Area of Borno State, Alhaji Mukhtar has a strong educational background in agriculture.

He graduated from the University of Maiduguri with a degree in Agriculture and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Ibadan.

His studies and experience have helped him become an expert in the livestock industry. Over the years, Alhaji Mukhtar has held several positions in agriculture and livestock development.

He was the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Borno State and also served as a Director in the Borno State Ministry of Agriculture. He is a notable member of the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science and the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute.

Alhaji Mukhtar is also an accomplished businessman. He is the Managing Director and CEO of Zaidi Farms Ltd, located in Kaduna. His farm is one of the most modern in Nigeria, with over 250 cattle, including Friesian, Simmental, and Jersey breeds.

The farm features advanced facilities such as pen houses, a milk parlor, tractors, and hay barns. Mukhtar has worked hard to improve the dairy industry in Nigeria, especially by focusing on Jersey cattle, which are known for their high milk yield and easy handling.
