How Many State House Of Assembly Members Do We Have In Delta State?
Currently, there are 29 elected delegates from each constituency, making up the assembly. Situated along Okpanam Road in the state capital, Asaba, the Delta State House of Assembly serves as the legislative body for the state.
It’s the platform where laws are debated, reviewed, and passed to shape the direction of governance in Delta State. Since its inception, the Delta State House of Assembly has seen several assemblies.
The first assembly was inaugurated in 1991 during the administration of Olorogun Felix Ibru, but it came to an end in 1992.
Currently, the eighth assembly, inaugurated on 13 June 2023, is in session. The political landscape of the Delta State House of Assembly has largely been dominated by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) since 1999.
PDP has consistently held power as the ruling party, influencing the legislative agenda and decisions made within the assembly.

Who Is The Current Speaker Of The House Of Assembly In Delta State?
The current Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly is Emomotimi Guwor. He assumed office on June 13, 2023, succeeding Sheriff Oborevwori.
Guwor, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), represents the Warri South West Constituency, having started his political career in 2019 when he won the general elections with 131,469 votes, defeating his opponent from the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Since then, Guwor has been a dedicated member of the Delta State House of Assembly. In the recent March 18, 2023, State House of Assembly Elections, Guwor secured a second term with 7,932 votes, reinforcing his position as a prominent figure in Delta State politics.
His victory mirrors the trust and confidence placed in him by his constituents. Upon his re-election, Guwor was elected as the Speaker of the 8th House of Assembly.
Following his inauguration, Guwor, along with other members, swore an oath of allegiance, marking the beginning of his tenure as Speaker.
His election has gained congratulatory messages from various individuals and organizations, highlighting his dedication and exemplary track record in public service.

Who Is The Current Deputy Speaker Of The House Of Assembly In Delta State?
Arthur Akpowowo currently serves as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly in Delta State. Representing the Ethiope-East Constituency, Akpowowo’s journey to this position has been seen by a notable rise through the ranks.
He initially served as the Delta State Youth Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from 2008 to 2012. Following this, he took on the role of the Kero Direct Scheme Coordinator under former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in 2011.
In 2015, Akpowowo contested for the PDP House of Assembly seat in Ethiope East but fell short. However, he was appointed as the Special Adviser to Governor Okowa on the Waterways/Land Security Committee from 2015 to 2019.
Later, he served as the Commissioner for Urban Renewal from 2019 to 2021 and was re-appointed for a second term from 2021 to 2022, before resigning to contest for the House of Assembly once again, emerging victorious.
Akpowowo’s reputation for transparency, accountability, and efficient resource management has earned him widespread trust and support.
