How Many House Of Assembly Members Do We Have In Akwa Ibom?
At present, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly comprises 26 members. These members represent the local government areas within Akwa Ibom, ensuring that the voices and concerns of all constituents are heard and addressed within the legislative process.
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly serves as the legislative body for Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria. Located in Udoudoma Avenue, a hub for business activities, the House of Assembly is integral to the governance of the state.
Since its inception, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has undergone several iterations, with the very first assembly inaugurated on 2nd October 1998.

Current Speaker Of Akwa Ibom State House Of Assembly
Udeme Otong serves as the current Speaker of the 8th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, representing the Abak State constituency under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He won with 20 votes, surpassing his only contender, Mr. Ukpong Akpabio, who secured 6 votes during the assembly’s inauguration in Uyo.
Expressing gratitude to God, colleagues, and Governor Pst Umo Eno for their support, Otong pledged to uphold the constitution and work in accord with the state government to promote development.
He emphasized the assembly’s commitment to following due process, ensuring growth, and serving the interests of the people.
Otong outlined his vision for the 8th Assembly, vowing not to obstruct progress but rather to be partners in advancement.
He stressed the importance of unity among members, regardless of their constituencies, in working towards the collective good of Akwa Ibom State.

Current Deputy Speaker Of Akwa Ibom State House Of Assembly
Rt. Hon. Kufreabasi Edidem is currently the Deputy Speaker of the 8th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. He represents the Itu state constituency and is part of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Edidem has a strong background in politics, having served as the Chairman of Itu Local Government Council twice before.
He’s known for following electoral laws closely and ensuring fair elections in his area. During the March 19, 2019 elections, the media noticed how peaceful and organized Edidem’s polling unit was.
Even though he wasn’t physically there, his influence was felt. He cares deeply about making sure elections are fair and everyone’s voice is heard.
