Who Was The First Governor Of Osun State?
Colonel Leo Segun Ajiborisha was the first governor of Osun State, Nigeria, and he served from August 27, 1991, to January 1, 1992.
His appointment came after Osun State was created from parts of Oyo State during the military rule of General Ibrahim Babangida.
Colonel Ajiborisha’s time in office was short but notable. He made several key decisions to set up the state’s administration.
One of his major actions was starting the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation. The first radio channel began broadcasting on November 25, 1991, in Ile-Ife.
This helped people in the state stay informed about the government and local news. Ajiborisha also set up the Osun State Civil Service Commission on September 30, 1991.
This commission was created to make the state’s civil service work better and improve how the government ran. Colonel Ajiborisha was governor for about four months.
In January 1992, he was succeeded by Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, the first civilian governor of the state. This change ended military rule and the start of civilian government in Osun State. After leaving office, Ajiborisha continued to serve in the Nigerian Army until he retired.
