Who Was The First Civilian Governor Of Adamawa State?
Abubakar Saleh Michika was the first civilian governor of Adamawa State, Nigeria. He served as governor from January 2, 1992, to November 17, 1993, representing the National Republican Convention (NRC) political party.
Michika was born in 1941 in Michika, a town in Adamawa State. He went to school in Yola and furthered his education at the School for Arabic Studies.
During his time as governor, Michika started several important projects. These included the Bajabure Housing Estate, building the College of Agriculture in Hong, and constructing Doctors’ Quarters.
He also introduced free WAEC exams for secondary school students and established the State Polytechnic in Yola. These achievements made him popular during the period known as the Third Republic in Nigeria.
Michika was known for his bold statements. In 1992, he said he would move to Cameroon if there was a military coup in Nigeria.
Years later, he suggested that Nigeria could be better governed with a mix of military and civilian leadership. After his time in office, Michika retired from politics.
He passed away on March 10, 2018. Michika was married to four wives and had a large family with 38 children, 105 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
Who Is The Current Governor Of Adamawa State?
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is the current governor of Adamawa State. He took office on May 29, 2019, as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fintiri has had a notable political career, including serving as the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly. However, he was briefly the acting governor in 2014 after Governor Murtala Nyako was impeached.
Fintiri was born on October 27, 1967, in Gulak, Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He attended Central Primary School, Gulak, and completed his secondary education at schools in Gulak and Michika.
Ahmadu earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Maiduguri in 1992 and a postgraduate diploma in Policy and Strategic Studies in 2004.
His political career began in 2007 when he was elected to the Adamawa State House of Assembly, representing the Madagali Constituency.
He became well-known after his brief time as acting governor in 2014. In the 2019 elections, Fintiri won the governorship after a supplementary election, defeating the incumbent. He was re-elected in 2023 after another close and contested election.
Fintiri has focused on improving infrastructure, promoting economic development, and launching programs to empower women and youth. His efforts in developing the state have earned him the nickname “Mr. Projects.”

Who Is The Current Deputy Governor Of Adamawa State?
Kaletapwa Farauta is the current Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, and she has been In office since May 29, 2023, following the term of Crowther Seth.
Farauta is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and was elected alongside Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Born on November 28, 1965, in Numan, Adamawa State, Farauta attended Numan II Primary School and later completed her secondary education at the Federal Government Girls College in Yola.
She went on to earn a degree in Agricultural Extension from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1989. Farauta continued her studies and obtained a PhD from the Federal University of Technology, Yola. Before entering politics, Farauta had a successful career in education and administration.
She served as the Vice Chancellor of Adamawa State University and held other important roles, such as the Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board and Commissioner for Higher Education.
Farauta helps the governor carry out state policies and oversees key areas like education and healthcare. In January 2024, she visited Mayo-Belwa General Hospital to check on ongoing construction projects.
