How Many Members Are In The House Of Assembly In Ekiti State?

The Ekiti State House of Assembly consists of 26 members elected from 16 local government areas. These members are elected from the 16 local government areas, also known as State Constituencies, within Ekiti State.

To ensure equal representation, local government areas with larger populations are divided into two constituencies. This arrangement maintains a balanced legislative body with 26 members.

The primary responsibilities of the Ekiti State House of Assembly include creating new laws, amending or repealing existing ones, and overseeing the actions of the executive branch.

Elected members serve a four-year term, aligning with federal legislators in Nigeria’s Senate and House of Representatives.

The assembly convenes for complete sessions three days a week, specifically on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and these sessions take place in the assembly complex located in the state capital, Ado-Ekiti.

Who Is The Current Speaker And Deputy Speaker Of The House Of Assembly In Ekiti State?

Adeoye Aribasoye

 

The current Speaker of the House of Assembly in Ekiti State is Adeoye Aribasoye. He was elected unopposed during the inaugural sitting of the seventh assembly.

Aribasoye, who represents Ikole Constituency 2, previously served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs in the 6th Assembly.

He expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him by his colleagues and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aribasoye committed to focus on legislative responsibilities such as lawmaking, oversight, and supporting the executive arm for the development of the state.

Bolaji Olagbaju, the lawmaker from Ado-Ekiti constituency two, emerged as the Deputy Speaker. His election was also unopposed, with support from twenty-four APC members and two from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

During the selection of other principal officers, Tolulope Ige from Ekiti South West 2 was announced as the Majority Leader, while Oluyomi Ayorinde from Ido-Osi Constituency Two was nominated as the Deputy Majority Leader.

Bosede Olowookere from the Efon constituency was chosen as the Chief Whip, and Maryam Ogunlade from the Emure constituency became the Deputy Chief Whip. The nomination process for the Speaker was presided over by the Clerk of the House, Tola Esan.
