The Ministry of Police Affairs in Nigeria was restructured under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in 2023 with the appointment of a Minister for State of Police affairs.

This ministry is responsible for overseeing the nation’s police force, ensuring effective law enforcement, and addressing issues related to public safety and police welfare.

The Current Minister Of State For Police Affairs In Nigeria In 2024

Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim

Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim is the current Minister of State for Police Affairs in Nigeria. She is the first woman to hold this position. Born in Plateau State, Imaan spent much of her childhood in Abuja.

For her early education, she attended Aruwa Nursery School and Jabi Primary School in Abuja. She later graduated with a degree in Sociology from the University of Abuja when she was just 19 years old.

By the age of 21, Imaan had earned two master’s degrees, an MBA and an MA, from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, London Campus.

Imaan’s political career began with roles in different governmental agencies. She completed her National Youth Service at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Kaduna.

Also, she worked at the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS), where she helped introduce Spatial Data Infrastructure for the Federal Capital Territory.

Her commitment to social issues led her to co-found The Beehive Initiative, which is now known as the BumbleeBee Civic Initiative.

This organization focuses on empowering women in politics and raising civic awareness. Imaan also served as the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

She made major contributions to fighting human trafficking. Later, she became the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, and worked on policies to help integrate displaced individuals into society.

In August 2023, Imaan was appointed as the Minister of State for Police Affairs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Her background in security and human rights, along with her extensive administrative experience, makes her well-suited to address the challenges facing the Nigerian police force.

She is currently completing a Doctoral program in Security and Strategic Studies at the Nigerian Defence Academy. Imaan is married and has three children.
