Who Was The First Governor Of Kwara State?
The first governor of Kwara State was Brigadier General Femi David Bamigboye. He was a military governor who took charge when the state was created in May 1967.
Kwara State was formed during the military rule of General Yakubu Gowon, who was the Head of State at the time. Brigadier General Bamigboye was in office until July 1975.
During his time, he helped start the early development of the new state, which was carved out from the old Northern Region. After the military rule, the first civilian governor of Kwara State was Alhaji Adamu Atta.
He served from October 1979 to October 1983. Atta was a member of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN). He was born in Okene, Kogi State, and had his education in Ghana and at the University of Ibadan.
Atta also worked as a civil servant and later entered politics. Atta achieved several things as a governor. He oversaw the construction of important projects like Kwara Hotels Phase II, new hospitals, and the Secretariat Phase III.
He also introduced the idea of setting up a community bank, which later became Trade Bank Plc in 1987. Atta was well-liked and remembered for his efforts to improve the lives of people in Kwara State.
After Atta, Kwara State had several other governors, both military and civilian. Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo, from the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), was a brief military governor from October to December 1983.
Other military governors followed, including Sunday Ifere, Salaudeen Latinwo, Mohammed Ndatsu Umaru, Ahmed Abdullahi, Ibrahim Alkali, and Alwali Kazir.
When civilian rule returned in 1999, Mohammed Lawal from the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) became governor and served until May 2003. He was followed by Bukola Saraki from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who served two terms from May 2003 to May 2011.

Who Is The Current Governor Of Kwara State?
AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is the current governor of Kwara State, Nigeria. He has been in office since May 29, 2019, after winning the governorship election held on March 9, 2019, as the candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was born on February 5, 1960, in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State. His family is well-known; his father was the first lawyer from Northern Nigeria.
AbdulRazaq attended several schools, starting with Capital School in Kaduna and then Government College in Kaduna, where he finished his secondary education. His journey into politics began in 1999 when Nigeria returned to democracy.
Although he faced difficulties early on, losing gubernatorial elections in 2003, 2007, and 2011, he did not give up. He finally got the APC nomination for governor in 2018 and won the election in 2019.
His administration has focused on making improvements in various areas, especially education. One of his notable projects is KwaraLEARN, which aims to improve basic education in the state.
In the 2023 gubernatorial elections, AbdulRazaq was re-elected for a second term. He won against his main opponent, Yaman Abdullahi from the PDP.
This victory means he will continue as governor until 2027. AbdulRazaq has been recognized for his work, including being chosen as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in May 2023.

Who Is The Current Deputy Governor Of Kwara State?
The current Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Nigeria, is Kayode Alabi. He was born on August 1, 1963, in Oro-Ago, Kwara State. Kayode Alabi comes from a family where he is the third child. His family includes two elder brothers and a younger sister.
His mother, Ena Alabi, is currently 93 years old. Kayode Alabi’s education and career are quite diverse. He worked as a part-time lecturer in the Marketing Department at Kaduna Polytechnic from 1988 to 1989.
After that, he started working in marketing at Beba Consult, a marketing consultancy firm. He then moved on to become a sales representative for a British trading company.
In 1996, he began his own business by starting a water bottling company in Lagos. Over the years, he has held different leadership roles in different companies.
For example, he has been the CEO of Bayview Oil and Gas Limited and Hot Wings Foods and Investment Limited. Besides his business ventures, he serves as the chairman of Vantage Heights Nursery and Primary School and Little Tots School in Lagos.
Kayode Alabi entered politics when he ran for Deputy Governor in the 2019 General Elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He ran alongside Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Once he took office, he was given the role of leading the COVID-19 Technical Committee in Kwara State.
