Who Is The Current Vice President Of Nigeria
The current Vice President of Nigeria is Kashim Shettima. He took the oath of office and was sworn in as the 15th Vice President of Nigeria on May 29, 2023, which was the inauguration date for the new administration following the February 2023 elections.
And, he has been a member of the all progressive party (APC) since 2013. Born on September 2, 1966, in Maiduguri, Nigeria, he has held different positions in both politics and banking throughout his career.
Shettima attended the University of Maiduguri, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, followed by a Master’s degree from the University of Ibadan.
Before he became a politician, Shettima worked in the banking sector, holding managerial positions in several banks. He ventured into politics in 2007 when he was appointed Commissioner for Finance in Borno State.
Over the years, he served in various ministerial roles under Governor Ali Modu Sheriff. Shettima’s political career gained momentum when he was elected Governor of Borno State in 2011, a position he held until 2019.
During his tenure, he faced the significant challenge of the Boko Haram insurgency, which had a profound impact on the region. In 2019, Shettima transitioned to the national stage, winning the Borno Central Senatorial District election.
However, he withdrew from the Senate nomination in 2023 to become the running mate of Bola Tinubu in the presidential election. After their victory, Shettima assumed office as the 15th Vice President of Nigeria on May 29, 2023.
In recognition of his contributions to Nigeria, Shettima was honored with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) in May 2023.
