How Many Members Are In The House Of Assembly In Yobe State?

The Yobe State of House of Assembly comprises 24 Honourable Members, as mandated by the 1999 Constitution. Since its inception in 1992, the Yobe State House of Assembly has played an important role in state governance.

During the Third Republic, legislators served a 20-month term under the military president, General Ibrahim Babangida.

However, the democratic structure was dismantled in late 1993 by the Abacha administration, relegating the state Assembly to a Legislative Unit under the Military Administrator’s office.

Despite this setback, efforts were made to establish a future legislature under federal government directives. With the change to the Fourth Republic, the Legislative Unit regained its status as the State House of Assembly.

This transition was facilitated by the promulgation of the State Government (Basic Constitutional and Transitional Provision) Decree 3 of 1999, along with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which mandated the establishment of State Assemblies nationwide.

Today, the Yobe State House of Assembly continues to operate with its full complement of 24 members, representing various constituencies across the state.
