Who Is The Current Speaker Of The Zamfara State House Of Assembly?
The current Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly is Honorable Bashar Gummi. Honorable Bashar Gummi took the position after the impeachment of the former speaker, Honorable Bilyaminu Moriki.
The impeachment took place during an emergency meeting where 18 out of the 24-member assembly voted for his removal.
However, the motion for impeachment was moved by Honorable Nasiru Abdullahi, representing the Maru state constituency.
The decision to impeach Moriki was largely attributed to the resurgence of banditry in communities across the state, which members felt needed urgent attention.
Notably, the former speaker was absent from the state before his removal. Honorable Shamsudeen Basko, representing Talata Mafara, emphasized the importance of addressing security challenges as a top priority under the new leadership.
