Who Is The Majority Leader Of The IMO House Of Assembly?

Hon. Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi

The Majority Leader of the IMO House of Assembly is Hon. Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi. He’s an important figure in the assembly, leading the majority party and overseeing the House Committee on Lands and Urban Development (OCDA).

Born on May 25th, 1969, he is married and holds a First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC). Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi brings a wealth of experience to his position, having served as an honorable member of his constituency from 2015 to 2019.

Kanayo comes from Lagos, and he is known for his dedication to public service and his commitment to improving the lives of his constituents.

Before his political career, Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi undertook several significant endeavors and achieved notable milestones.

These include the construction of a 9km asphalted road, installation of 2 units of 500kva transformers, and advocating for the upgrading of FECOLART to the Federal University of Agriculture, which has passed the first reading and awaits the second reading at the National Assembly.

Additionally, he facilitated the employment of 32 youths in different federal agencies such as the Civil Defence, Nigerian Prisons Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Immigration Service, EFCC, and FECOLART.

As a member of the IMO State House of Assembly representing Owerri West constituency, Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi continues to champion the interests of his constituents.

Who Is The Current Speaker Of The House Of Assembly In Imo State?

Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe

Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe is the current Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, representing Ihitte/Uboma State Constituency. He assumed office in June 2023, representing the 10th Imo State House Assembly.

Olemgbe, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), represents the Ihitte/Uboma State Constituency in the state House of Assembly.

Previously, Olemgbe served as the Transition Committee Chairman of Ihitte/Uboma local government area. He moved into state-level politics after being elected in the 2023 state assembly elections.

Olemgbe’s nomination for the speakership position came from Vitalis Azodo of the APC, representing Ideato South constituency, and was seconded by Ugochukwu Obodo, also of the APC, representing Owerri Municipal constituency.

His nomination was met with unanimous support, leading to his election as Speaker. As a first-term member of the house, Olemgbe brings a fresh perspective to his leadership role.

Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu

The current Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly in Imo State is Rt. Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu. Hon. Amara is a great young leader known for his integrity and entrepreneurial skills.

Born in Owerri, Imo State in the 1980s, Hon. Amara grew up in Surulere, Lagos, where he attended Kings College for his secondary education before obtaining a degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Prior to his political career, Hon. Amara demonstrated his commitment to community development by personally undertaking the rehabilitation of roads in different wards.

His dedication to the well-being of Nwangele Indigenes exceeds partisan lines, as evidenced by his non-partisan approach to projects like the Nkwo Onyeukwu market Square Abajah rehabilitation, which he flagged off in December 2017.

Popularly known as “Mr. Capacity,” Hon. Amara earned this nickname through his campaign for the House of Assembly to symbolize his mental and physical talent to represent his people effectively.

Since assuming office in 2019, Hon. Amara has proven himself as a grassroots leader, staying connected with his community and continuing the legacy of service inherited from his father, Elder Chyna Iwuanyanwu.

His father’s values of integrity and community service deeply influenced Hon. Amara’s approach to governance, making him a beacon of hope for the people of Imo State.
