How Many House Of Assembly Members Do We Have In Benue State?
Currently, there are 32 members in the Benue State House of Assembly, representing the 23 local government areas. These members are elected to serve a term of four years, alongside federal legislators and the governor.
The Assembly meets three times a week in the state capital, Makurdi, for plenary sessions, where important discussions and decisions are made.
Also, the Assembly conducts oversight activities to ensure the proper functioning of the executive branch. Each member represents a constituency, with some local government areas having more than one constituency.
These constituencies include Ado, Agatu, Apa, Obi, Oju 1, Oju 2, Oturkpo, Ankpa/Ugboju, Ogbadibo, Ado, Okpokwu, Makurdi North, Makurdi South, Gwer West, Gwer East, Agasha, Guma, Gboko West, Gboko East, Tarka, Buruku, Konshisha, Kwande West, Kwande East, Mata, Mbagwa, Tiev, Kyan, Ukum, Logo, Katsina-Ala West, and Katsina Ala East.

Current Speaker Benue State House Of Assembly?
Aondona Hyacinth Dajoh Is the current Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly. He was elected during the proceedings of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly.
The election took place after three rounds of voting on Monday, June 5, 2023. Before the election, there was some tension as members engaged in a heated debate.
Dajoh, who represents Gboko West, secured the position with the support of the governor and his party members. He emphasized his humility and willingness to collaborate in his acceptance speech.
His opponent, Becky Orpine, representing Gboko East, was nominated by a different faction within the party. She campaigned for women’s participation in politics but ultimately lost the election.
The position of the speaker was designated to Gboko LGA, part of Benue North-West. During the election process, there were calls for the exclusion of certain influential figures to ensure fairness.
After initial ties in the first round of voting, the following rounds were seen by intense discussions and accusations of undue influence. In the end, Dajoh secured victory with 17 votes, while Orpine received 15 votes.
This saw the conclusion of a notable moment in the state’s legislative history, with Dajoh assuming the role of Speaker for the 10th Benue State House of Assembly.

Current Deputy Speaker Benue State House Of Assembly?
The Benue State House of Assembly has recently made history by electing Mrs. Lami Danladi as its first-ever Deputy Speaker.
Representing the Ado State Constituency, Mrs. Danladi’s nomination and subsequent election were met with unanimous support from her colleagues.
Hon. Damkor Mathew, hailing from the Tiev State Constituency, proposed her nomination to stress the importance of gender equity and balance within the Assembly.
In his address, Hon. Damkor emphasized the significance of Mrs. Danladi’s election, noting her commendable qualities and suitability for the role. His nomination resonated with the Assembly, leading to Mrs. Danladi’s unopposed emergence as Deputy Speaker.
As the first woman to hold such a position in the Assembly’s history, Mrs. Danladi’s appointment is a major milestone toward gender parity in political leadership.
Following her election, Mrs. Danladi expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her by her colleagues. She pledged to fulfill her duties with diligence and dedication, ensuring that the voices of all constituents are heard and represented.
