How Many Members Are In The Edo House Of Assembly?
The Edo State House of Assembly is the main decision-making body for the Nigerian state of Edo. According to Chapter V, Part II of the Constitution of Nigeria, which was adopted in 1999, the House of Assembly consists of 24 members.
These members are elected individually from different single-member constituencies spread across the 18 local government areas within the state.
Currently, the political landscape within the Edo House of Assembly images a majority held by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with a total of 15 seats.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) are in the minority, with the APC holding 8 seats and the LP holding 1 seat.
However, the unicameral nature of the House of Assembly means that it operates as a single-chamber legislature, where all legislative powers are concentrated in one assembly.
This setup allows for efficient decision-making and debate within the legislative process.
With 24 members representing diverse constituencies, the Edo House of Assembly serves as a forum for addressing various issues and concerns affecting the state’s residents.

Who Is The Current Speaker And Deputy Of The Edo State House Of Assembly?
Blessing Agbebaku is the current Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly. She represents the Owan West constituency in the Assembly.
Blessing Agbebaku was elected along with Mrs. Maria Edekor, who represents the Esan North-East Constituency II, as the Deputy Speaker. Both of them were elected unopposed and are members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In the March 18 House of Assembly election, the PDP won 15 seats, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured eight seats and the Labour Party (LP) won one.
Governor Godwin Obaseki congratulated the newly inaugurated members and stressed the importance of collaboration between the executive and legislative branches to sustain the state’s development.
Governor Obaseki highlighted the important role of the legislative arm in providing economic growth and development through the enactment of appropriate laws.
He commended the Seventh Assembly for its historic achievements and urged the Eighth Assembly to strive for even greater accomplishments.
Speaker Blessing Agbebaku expressed gratitude to the governor for the administration’s developmental initiatives across various sectors. She promised the support and collaboration of the new legislators to advance the state’s agenda.
