How Many Members Are In The House Of Assembly In Borno?
The Borno State House of Assembly forms 30 members who represent the 27 local government areas of the state. This legislative body operates under a unicameral system, meaning it consists of a single chamber.
The members are elected to represent the 27 local government areas of Borno State. However, to ensure equitable representation, local government areas with larger populations are divided into two constituencies, resulting in a total of 30 state constituencies.
Members of the Borno State House of Assembly are elected for a term of four years, which aligns with the terms of federal legislators and the state governor.
The assembly summons for plenary sessions three times a week, specifically on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. These sessions take place in the assembly complex located in the state capital, Maiduguri.

Who Is The Current Speaker Of Borno State House Of Assembly?
Abdulkarim Lawan is currently serving as the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly (BOSHA). He was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly.
Hon. Lawan previously held the position of Speaker in the 9th Assembly and has been presiding over the House since the Sixth Assembly.
The announcement of his re-election came from the Clerk of the Assembly, Mr. Jidayi Mamza, who stated that the House received a proclamation from the state Governor, Babagana Zulum, to hold its first session on June 13.
This session was convened based on the powers conferred on the Governor by section 105 subsection 3 of the 1999 Constitution.
During the session, the Member-elect representing Marte, Gambomi Marte, proposed the nomination of Abdulkarim Lawan for Speaker, which was seconded by the Member-elect representing Jere, Abba Kyari Kolo.
The House also unanimously elected Abdullahi Musa from the Askira/Uba state constituency as the Deputy Speaker. In his acceptance speech, Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan expressed gratitude to the members for re-electing him and stressed the unity within the House.
He urged the newly inaugurated members to collaborate closely with the executive arm to address key issues such as education, food security, and security.
As the longest-serving Speaker in the history of Nigeria, with twelve years of service, Hon. Lawan pledged to maintain an open-door policy to propel the Assembly to greater heights.

Who Is The Current Deputy Speaker Of Borno State House Of Assembly?
The current Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly is Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Musa Askira. Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Musa Askira, born on February 13, 1968, hails from Askira/Uba, Borno State.
He is a prominent engineer, politician, and administrator. Abdullahi Musa Askira went to Askira Central Primary School from 1975 to 1980, followed by Government Secondary School, Uba, where he completed his secondary education from 1980 to 1985.
He pursued his tertiary education at Ramat Polytechnic, Maiduguri, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (B.Eng) and later obtaining a Master’s degree (M.Eng).
Then he furthered his studies at the University of Maiduguri for graduate and postgraduate degrees. Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Musa Askira’s professional career is seen by his service in the Ministry of Works and Housing, where he started as an Assistant Technical Officer in 1990 and rose to the position of Assistant Director of Electrical and Electronics in 2006.
He voluntarily resigned from his position in 2006 to pursue a career in politics. In 2007, he was elected as a member representing Askira/Uba Constituency in the Borno State House of Assembly.
Within the Assembly, he has had different roles, including Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Housing.
Outside of his legislative duties, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Musa Askira has been involved in developmental projects, serving on task force committees for housing projects in the state.
He is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and is deeply committed to the progress and development of Borno State.
