Who Was The First Minister Of Police Affairs?
David Medayese Jemibewon was the first Minister of Police Affairs in Nigeria, serving from 1999 to 2001. David Jemibewon was born on March 10, 1947, in Kogi State, Nigeria.
He grew up in a humble family and he completed his primary and secondary education in Nigeria. After finishing secondary school, he went on to attend the University of Ibadan, where he earned a degree in Sociology. Jemibewon started his political career with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He was appointed as the Minister of Police Affairs in 1999 after Nigeria returned to democratic governance following many years of military rule, and he was focused on reforming the police force, improving community policing, and tackling crime and insecurity in Nigeria.

As of 2024, the current Minister of Police Affairs in Nigeria is Ibrahim Gaidam. He was appointed to this position in May 2023 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party.
Ibrahim Gaidam was born in 1955 in Yobe State, Nigeria. He attended the University of Maiduguri, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration. Later, he completed a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the same university.
Gaidam began his political career in 2003 when he was elected to the Yobe State House of Assembly. He served in the state legislature until 2007. In 2007, he was elected as the Governor of Yobe State under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).
He was re-elected as governor in 2011 and served until 2019. However, Ibrahim Gaidam has focused on making the Nigeria Police Force more efficient and effective.
