The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in Nigeria was officially established on August 21, 2023. This happened under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

However, the main objective of this ministry is to tackle the big problems of housing and urban development in Nigeria.

It focuses on making affordable housing available for people, improving the quality of urban infrastructure, and encouraging sustainable urban growth.

The ministry aims to make cities better places to live by building more houses that people can afford, fixing roads and other facilities, and ensuring that development is done in a way that doesn’t harm the environment.

The Current Minister Of Housing And Urban Development In Nigeria

Hon. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa

Hon. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa is the current Minister of Housing and Urban Development in Nigeria, having took office in August 2023.

He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) political party. Dangiwa is a professional architect and administrator with more than 30 years of experience in real estate, mortgage banking, and public service.

He studied at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, an MSc in Architecture, and an MBA.

Also, he studied at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Dangiwa was the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) from 2015 to 2022.

During his time there, he helped bring in an extra ₦279 billion in contributions to the National Housing Fund (NHF) scheme.

He also managed to give out ₦175 billion in affordable housing loans and construction finance. Under his leadership, the bank processed ₦39.5 billion in refunds to 247,521 retired NHF contributors.

He started the ₦40 billion FMBN Cities project and developed new housing products to make homes more affordable.

Dangiwa has also had leadership roles at AM Design Consults, Jarlo International, TRIAD Associates, and Sahel Mortgage Finance Bank.

As the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, he is now working on the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme. This program aims to build 50,000 housing units across Nigeria.

He is working closely with the Minister of State, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, to reach this goal and tackle the challenges in housing and urban development in the country.

Dangiwa’s background in architecture and his experience in real estate and mortgage banking make him well-suited for his role as minister.
