How Many Members Are In The House Of Assembly In Osun State?

The Osun State House of Assembly has 26 members. It is a unicameral legislature elected from the 30 local government areas of the state, known as state constituencies.

In some places, two local government areas are merged to form a single state constituency. Members of the assembly are elected for a term of four years, concurrent with federal legislators (Senate and House of Representatives).

The assembly convenes three times a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) in the assembly complex within the state capital, Osogbo.

In addition to its numerical composition, the Osun State House of Assembly carries important responsibilities. Its fundamental functions include passing new laws, amending or repealing existing laws, and overseeing the actions of the executive branch of government.

Who Is The Current Speaker Of Osun State House Of Assembly?

Adewale Egbedun

 

Adewale Egbedun is presently the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, taking office in June 2023, succeeding Timothy Owoeye. He represents the Odo-Otin State Constituency and is affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Egbedun entered the assembly as a first-term member and assumed the role of speaker following his nomination by Abiola Ibrahim and endorsement by Areoye Ebenezer, both fellow PDP members.

He was elected unopposed on 6 June 2023. Egbedun’s tenure represents a change in leadership within the Osun State House of Assembly, bringing forth the priorities and agenda of the Peoples Democratic Party.

As the Speaker, he bears a part in shaping legislative decisions and driving the state’s development agenda. With his commitment to addressing key issues and revisiting legislation, Egbedun aims to lead the assembly towards better governance and responsiveness to the needs of the people.

Who Is The Current Deputy Speaker Of Osun State House Of Assembly?

 

The current Deputy Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly is Hon. Akinyode Abidemi Oyewusi. He’s a member of the People Democratic Party, representing the IFE North State Constituency.

Hon. Akinyode Abidemi Oyewusi hails from Ipetumodu in the Ife-North local government area of Osun State. His educational journey began in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, where he completed his primary and secondary education.

Later, he pursued higher studies at Lead City University, Ibadan, focusing on Political Science and International Relations.

Hon. Akinyode Oyewusi is not just a political figure but also a Nigerian publishing entrepreneur, political activist, and motivational speaker.

His contributions to leadership have been acknowledged with different awards, including the Young African Leadership Award by Hertie School of Governance, Berlin, Germany, and the Youth Role Model Award by Youth for Africa Initiative, among others.

His engagement in national discourse is clear through his participation as a delegate at the “Youth Dialogue” conference held at the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in May 2017, attended by prominent Nigerian political leaders.

In addition to his political and leadership roles, Hon. Oyewusi is dedicated to social impact. He established the Prince Akinyode Akinlolu Oyewusi Foundation (PAAO FOUNDATION), a non-governmental organization committed to economic empowerment, public infrastructural development, and the welfare of the people.

He is an active member of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and serves as the CEO of Raregeode Forte Publishers, Nigeria.
