Maiduguri is the state capital, located in the Northeast part of Nigeria, and is also the biggest city in Borno State. The Teda (Tibesti), Kanuri, and Kanembu were the first settlers; However, in the 15th and 16th centuries, the Sefawa drove them out.
The Saifawa kings of El Kanemi moved to the region west of Lake Chad in the fourteenth century, which is whence the state got its start.
The Mais’ power was undermined by the Fulani jihad of the 19th century, and a Kanembu Islamic scholar named Muhammad El-Amin lbn El-Kanemi ultimately succeeded them.
Borno is 57,798.2 square kilometers in size. With a population density of 72, the state has a population of roughly 4,171,104 (2006 census) and 5,860,183 (2016 prediction).
Ramat Polytechnic, Borno State University, and the University of Maiduguri are only a few of the state’s postsecondary educational establishments. Notable in the state is the Chad Basin Natural Park, Chingurmi-Duguma.
The majority ethnic group in the state is the Kanuri people, who have a rich cultural legacy. Mineral resources found in the state include granite, quartz, magnesite, mica, clay, salt, potash, limestone, kaolin, sandstone, iron ore, and uranium.
Three senatorial districts and 27 local government areas make up Borno State. It can be recalled that the start of Boko Haram’s insurgency in 2009 had a major effect on the state, destroying numerous schools and causing the deaths of several instructors.
Borno borders Cameroon to the east and Niger, Chad, and Chad to the north internationally. It shares boundaries with Adamawa, Gombe, and Yobe States to the west and south.
The majority of the state works in farming, herding, and fishing, making it predominantly an agrarian state. The manufacturing of livestock, cowhides, and completed leather goods are among the regional industries, along with cotton weaving, dyeing, and leather tanning.
